The second incarnation of my blog

This week I have been…

ImageSweating… like everyone else in England. It’s been a very hot week and not helped by the lack of aircon at the offices I’ve been to and the hours spent in the car!

Listening… to some really random music.  Now and again on Amazon, they allow free downloads of whole albums with songs from specific (usually small) record labels. So you get a dozen or so tracks and sometimes there are some great songs. Check out the current batch.

Saddened… by the death of Mel Smith at the age of only 60. He was a modest comedy genius.

Watched… a well made, but shocking true film called Sophie Scholl: The Final Days about a group of people in Germany in their early 20’s during the war. They were protesting against the Nazi regime and were caught. It’s a harrowing story. 8/10 from me.

Attending… Folk By The Oak, a folkie festival in Hatfield. We won tickets through the local paper (I am beginning to suspect that no-one enters competitions as this is the third we’ve won between us!). The event today had a good few thousand people there, 99% white and middle classed, which is a bit sad.  It was extremely hot and uncomfortable, but we enjoyed it all the same, even if some of the music wasn’t really my thing.

Noted… a great lyric on the radio from a song I’ve heard lots of times, but never really heard. It’s from King Of The Road by Roger Miller from 1964.  The lyrics goes: “I’m a man of means, by no means”.  I love the double double meaning.

I agree – ‘Sophie Scholl’ a terrific film. It lingers in my mind still, a few years since seeing it.

Love king of the road, great song, great lyrics. I too was saddened by Mel Smiths death, he was I think perhaps quite under-ratted in our recent times, yet he was a true comedy genius,
