A miracle in the rubble

As you will have seen, there was an horrendous tornado in Oklahoma. So many people died and others have lost so much. It’s a horrible situation for anyone, let alone an old lady, featured in this video.

Yesterday on Radio 2, Jeremy Vine made the insensitive comment that this moment was not a glimmer of hope as it was “only a dog”. He stressed the word dog as if to emphasise his complete misunderstanding of the situation It really angered me and many others. I wont be listening to him again. In recent weeks I heard this usual good journalist make some silly mistakes, almost misunderstanding on purpose.

In this case, the dog was her companion and she seemed more concerned about him than her house – it’s an amazing moment…

It’s the same old religious message (at least from MOST religions) – As long as there is human suffering going on then the suffering of other beings can be dismissed as relatively unimportant. To which I say “Balderdash!”
