The second incarnation of my blog
We spent yesterday in Oakham visiting Pete’s Uncle and Aunty. We had a look around the town before taking Zac for a walk at Rutland Water, the reservoir nearby.
The town is a strange mix of recession and money. There are more independent ladies clothes shops than makes sense, but the mens shops have closed and there is a growth in charity shops numbers. To me it’s a good example of a small town that has too many shops and still needs to find a niche to ensure that people visit just for the independent shops and restaurants. It’s close to achieving it’s aims and I suspect the successful town centres of the next decade will be those that can adapt as the chain stores close down completely or move out.
Here’s a pic I took at Rutland Water where Zac got wet in the rain and seemed to enjoy staring, slightly confused, at the sheep.
